And, of course, marriages in Greece are well known for their traditions, passion and vibrancy. Why not create your own big fat Greek wedding?

Whether you want to tie the knot in a village or luxury resort, you won’t be lacking in choice – there’s an almost limitless selection of scenic backdrops and magical settings for the most important and special day of your lives. From sleepy hamlets to bustling modern towns, each island has its own atmosphere and unique character.

As well as being a sun-worshipper’s paradise, this is also a land of ancient sites and historic architecture, incredible food and as much or as little pulsating nightlife and late-night partying as you want. In fact, with so many varied locations to make your choice from, across both the islands and the mainland, making your selection is the hard part!

And the good news is that the law has changed in recent years, making it easier than ever to get married in a stunning Greek location. Your marriage will be legally valid in the UK. The paperwork you need will depend on personal circumstances and where you are from. Contact the local head priest for a religious ceremony, or the mayor or president of the community for a civil one, or go for a wedding package in which everything is arranged for you.

You could think about an outdoor ceremony, a beach setting, a civil marriage or a service in a church or any another kind of religious marriage.

Many couples opt for tourist haunts such as Corfu, Mykonos, Santorini and Rhodes. In Santorini, you could get married in the dramatic and romantic setting of the rim of a volcano, hundreds of feet above the sea.

Although you can get married when you like, in Greece weddings typically take place at sunset, when it tends to be cooler. Afterwards, you can head straight off for an evening of dancing, singing, eating and drinking.

Afterwards, you can kick back and enjoy your honeymoon the way you want it, in one of Europe’s most sun-kissed and delightful countries.
